University District Named Runner Up For CHBA National Community Development Award

West Campus Development Trust was recognized during the virtual Canadian Home Builders’ Association’s Housing Awards on June 12

West Campus Development Trust recently gained national recognition from the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA), as University District has been named runner-up for the Community Development Award. The honour was awarded during a virtual gala ceremony on June 12. Partners on the award included West Campus Development Trust, DIALOG, EXP Services Inc., IBI Group, and WATT Consulting Group.

University District is one of the city’s most ambitious and visionary communities offering retail, office space, parks and trails, residential living and more, nestled on 200-acres surrounding the Foothills Medical Centre, University of Calgary and the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

“We took a lot of time to make University District a people-centric neighbourhood, because we know this is a space where our residents do more than just work and live,” said James Robertson, CEO of West Campus Development Trust. “This is a place where community, business and lifestyle can thrive. We are honoured that our efforts have been recognized by the CHBA and we are grateful to our many partners for their dedication and commitment to creating a leading Canadian community.”

Connection and ease of access are central to University District’s pedestrian-friendly design, allowing residents to walk or cycle to its many amenities including nearby schools, parks, retail offerings, pathway systems, transit and more.

“We wanted University District to have its own distinct community pulse, creating a sought-after neighbourhood that is full-service, unique, and highly connected to the rest of the city,” continues Robertson. “This recognition is the culmination of years of hard work, and we are just getting started.”

University District would like to congratulate all of the winners and finalists of the 2020 CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence.
